My Dream House

Dear Bear's Future Husband, whoever you may be.

Please make sure you buy me a house with a big enough back yard to build this for me.
-- But with more bookshelves and wi-fi.

The Perfect Walk

Skies whisper of the impending storm
My fingers flex; testing the bite in the air
Overhead, clouds are marbled
Different shades of black and gray
Mirroring the asphalt and concrete underfoot

Overeager raindrops hitch a ride on a gale
Wind and dust dance
Swirling around me; twisting, tugging my hair
My pace quickens; moisture kisses my cheeks.

January 15

Dear S,

The rain is falling
As rain is wont to do
Creating puddles
Making the asphalt shine
Reflecting the moon
And the neon signs

Forgive me

My mind is uneasy
Stringing words together in verse
- disjointed bits of prose
Which is really what verse is
Chopped up ideas.

My Saturday was spent
Driving down into the dark
Power Plant Parking
It seemed so wrong
To be in the drivers seat
Alone

So many empty spaces
For parking
And in the car.
How long will they remain
Unoccupied

I'm haunted by the ghosts
Of those who've gone
To be at peace
Or simply to be.

Through the blur
Of colors and sounds blending
Swirling like watercolor
Things pop out
Pieces he would have bought
Things I'd like to show
You

I roam the aisles
Stride full of purpose
Focused but empty
I try to hide
Deny
The loneliness

The people at Starbucks
Sit and drink coffee
They sit
Where my life changed
Completely

Each place has a memory
Each memory has a place
Mundane memories
Of food and conversation
Meaningful memories
of a relationship's birth

I go through the motions
minute, hour, day
Smile to be strong
Sometimes
Its stong to admit
I miss you
Both

Love,
S

Daddy Day

Daddy lived a great life: he was an ultralight pilot, a gold medalist shooter and archer, a hunter, architect, businessman, and of course, a great father and grandfather.
He loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest, always eager to try new food, travel to new places, and meet new people.
Prostate cancer? PFT! He beat that!
Daddy did what he wanted and he was his own boss till the very end.

Intellectually, I know that he had no regrets, is no longer in pain, and is in a far better place now but that doesn't make it hurt any less.

Daddy has been my Saturday date for over 22 years. He is my movie partner, my lunch mate, and my shopping partner. Saturdays have always been "Daddy Day" for me and this Saturday will be my last with him.
Its appropriate that he will be laid to rest on Daddy Day.

Seen in Singapore

I spent the weekend in Singapore so I wanted to share with you some of the interesting stuff I saw there.

Check out the bathroom at my brother's apartment in Singapore. I'm pretty sure its the smallest shower ever. I was sitting on the toilet and I banged my forehead on the faucet when I looked down - true story!
Without exaggeration, its the exact size of an airplane lavatory - but with a shower!

This is quite possibly a bibliophile's dream food-court/restaurant.
This is Food Republic at Suntec. Its a food-court made to resemble an old library. Its what I imagine heaven's cafeteria looks like.

The "butt" of the Duck Tours boat that will take you around all the major sights of Singapore via land and sea.

There's something very disturbing about this playground apparatus.
