Procrastination and Masking Tape Saved My Life

Okay, here's the story.
I was at the sink to brush my teeth. Above the sink there are 2 sliding mirrors covering the medicine/cosmetics cabinet.
I needed a new tube of toothpaste so I slid one of the mirrors over and to my shock, the thing came down on me! I have no idea how it happened, all I know is that one moment I was sliding the mirror over and next thing I knew I was trying to keep a thick, 3.5 by 3.5 foot, 70 lbs. mirror from smashing onto my head. The bottom part of the mirror was still in its aluminum slider but the top part had come undone. I tried to lift it to slide it back into place or even to put it onto the floor but the mirror was too wide for me to get a decent grip on it and besides, it was way too heavy for me to lift it even an inch, let alone get it to the floor without killing myself.
I must've stood there for a good 20 minutes holding the mirror in place and wondering how I was going to get out of this predicament. I was alone in this part of the house so screaming for someone to come wouldn't help and my cell phone was too far away to reach without letting go. Just when I had resigned to stand there for the next hour until Mom came home, I saw a couple of bottles make up remover that I had taken home from San Francisco last July. I had wrapped the cap of the bottles in heavy duty masking tape to make sure that they didn't leak in my suitcase. I had been meaning to remove the masking tape for months (since I arrived, actually) but since I wasn't using them (I'm still in the middle of a bottle so no need to open new ones) I had never gotten around to it. Thank god for my lazy ass!
So, with my left arm holding the mirror in place, I reached over, got the bottle, and carefully peeled off the masking tape, all the while praying that it was still sticky and that the make-up remover hadn't dissolved the adhesive. Thankfully, the tape was good as new!
With some maneuvering, I was able to tape the falling mirror to the secure one behind it using the tape from both bottles, just long enough to run to the door, open it, and yell to the kitchens for some help. I quickly rushed back because I wasn't sure if the the 4, 3-inch strips of used tape could hold a 70-something pound mirror for very long. Thankfully, Mercy came to my rescue and the 2 of us were able to gently lower the mirror down onto the floor.
Whew! Never underestimate the power of masking tape!

Mirror, mirror on the floor . . .
Here's a photo of the mirror that nearly killed me.

P.S. Happy International Polar Bear Day, everyone!
